What the AI Text Cleaner does
The AI Text Cleaner turns text copied from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot into clean copy you can paste anywhere. It removes Markdown symbols such as ** and ##, finds hidden Unicode characters like zero-width and non-breaking spaces, and swaps em dashes and curly quotes for plain punctuation. It runs entirely in your browser, so your text is never uploaded.

Why AI text is full of symbols and hidden characters
Chat apps write in Markdown. It looks tidy on screen, but the symbols come along when you paste into an email, a form or a social post, and tables arrive as rows of pipes. Models also use typographic characters a keyboard rarely produces, such as non-breaking spaces, non-breaking hyphens and em dashes, which can break word counts, search, sorting and some forms.
In 2025, people noticed unusual spaces in some ChatGPT answers and asked whether they were watermarks. Whatever their origin, they are easy to find and remove, and this tool shows each one by name.
One honest note: cleaning formatting does not make text undetectable or “human”. Detection tools look at wording, and some AI providers add statistical watermarks that no character cleaner can remove. Use this tool to tidy text, not to hide where it came from.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The cleaner runs entirely in your browser. Your text is not sent to GradientCo or any other server, and the tool keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
How do I remove the asterisks from ChatGPT text?
Paste the text into the box and keep Markdown symbols switched on. Bold and italic markers such as ** and * are removed and the words stay.
Does it remove the ChatGPT watermark?
It removes invisible and unusual characters, including the spaces people have called watermarks. It cannot remove statistical watermarks that some AI providers build into word choice, and it does not make text undetectable.
Why does AI text look wrong when I paste it into Word?
Word does not read Markdown, so symbols like ## and ** appear as text and tables arrive as lines of pipes. Choose For Word & Docs and copy: headings, bold text, lists and tables paste as real formatting.
Does it work with Claude, Gemini and Copilot?
Yes. It works on any text, whichever chatbot or app produced it.
Will it break emoji or non-English text?
No. Emoji keep the joining characters they need, zero-width joiners inside Persian, Urdu, Hindi and similar scripts are kept, and right-to-left marks are kept in Arabic, Urdu and Hebrew text.
Can I keep the em dashes?
Yes. Untick Em and en dashes to leave them alone, or choose what replaces them: a comma, a spaced hyphen or a full stop.
