Just last month, I was attending a webinar, listening to a motivational speaker give an example of the likes of those who made it big time with their efforts.
However, the phrase “not one shape fits all” will always be necessary for consideration when we discuss the topic ‘achievement.’
Circumstances Shape Achievement

The grass is never green all the time, and the sun does not shine bright all the time and equally. Our circumstances shape our stories and achievements and circumstances are never the same for everyone.
The path is meant to be different for everyone. I do not mean to blame anyone who aspires to replicate or copy others. However, the sooner one may come to terms with their capabilities and limitations, the better. In the end, it should not be about who achieved the most. The focus should not be on who made the most of the opportunity. It should rather be about who made the most out of the opportunity they had, with the limitations they were restricted to. It should be more about who maximized upon their potential to achieve their goals.
The Focus on Absolute Achievement

However, our surroundings seem to favor the prior two. We discuss achievement in absolute terms, often disregarding something that on paper may look small, but means a lot to that individual.
It may not be realistic to set out to educate everyone to change their meanings and mindsets. The most we can do is make ourselves comfortable and immune to any of the comments others make. This does not mean disregarding all criticism. Criticism is great, done in the right manner. Though it is up to the individual to evaluate the criticism.
Rephrase, Not Reshape

This is where we need to rephrase conversations about achievement rather than reshape them. Bear in mind that not everyone may get a head start. Not everyone will jump the hurdles well. The value lies in the eyes of the beholder and your value lies in how you see yourself. Have role models, have inspirations, however, not in the absolute material terms, but in aspects to learn and aspects to improve.
