What do you know about cybersecurity?
Cybersecurity is defending and securing computers, mobile phones, servers, networks, and other electronic systems from different venomous attacks. Usually, cybersecurity refers to securing the data from the malicious attacks of hackers. Nowadays the cybersecurity is considering the most important type of security in this era where the evolution of technology is growing every day and the risk of securing data is also becoming critical.
Challenges in Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity is becoming more crucial as cybercrime is increasing according to the evolution of technology. Moreover, the advancement of Artificial Intelligence has made life more comfortable but the security risk is also increasing. It is important to know that everything over the internet is not safe. Therefore, the ratio of frauds and scams are also increasing with the increase in internet users. So, it is hard to manage the security and integrity of data over the internet.
For organizations, it is important to maintain the security of their data from internal and external malicious attacks. But this task is hard to manage as it requires a team approach. A group of professionals to manage all the security of their data over the internet.
Security threats of Cyber Crime
In October 2018 a cyber-attack took place in which the hackers break into the security of Pakistani Banks. After that, they took thousands of debits, credit cards, and the banking details of almost 20 thousand accounts from 22 different banks. Similarly, around 6 million dollars are stolen from the bank of Islami on October 27, 2018. 6000 accounts were hacked. Unfortunately, cybercrime is continuously increasing because of the increase in internet users. Nowadays everyone is familiar with social applications and they share their precious moments with their friends and family. But, they aren’t aware of how much cybercriminals are dangerous. They use to send and post their personal data without even knowing that all of their data can be easily accessible and they will be in huge trouble.
Unfortunately, government websites are also not safe. The hackers are continuously adopting new methods to break their security. Government websites are also victims of these cyber-attacks. In 2017 a government website Pakistan.gov.pk is hacked by some Indian hackers. But later on, it was recovered.
It is important to understand the sensitivity of this era of the internet where everything is on the line. Your personal data, personal contacts, family, personal chats, and personal calls. In short, every single thing over the internet is under a security threat. And also their security is a question mark. In conclusion, nobody is safe and nobody claims that his/her data is safe.
Prevention and solutions to cybercrime
Government Actions:
Most importantly, the government needs to trace illegal trafficking and punish them under certain rules. Although the rules are there for cybercrime they need to be more clear and they should be victim-friendly. Similarly, the government needs to address this issue over social media and also on television. Moreover, all the laws and punishments should be clarified to people. In addition, there should be a proper subject for cybersecurity at school and college level. So, it will provide awareness about cybercrime, their punishments, all the government rules, and how to manage cybersecurity on an individual level.
Individual Preventions:
Firstly, when you come to know that everything over the internet is unsafe. It’s hard to maintain security then try to use only authenticate resources/medium to transfer your personal data. Secondly, we need to realize that social media sources are not safe. Need to stop sending/posting our personal data. Thirdly, If somehow your data gets trapped by some means, then you can complain online through the National Response Center for Cyber Crime.
Moreover, their staff is cooperative and soon they will resolve your matter. But we all give the hackers or scammers an opportunity to go through our personal data. So, we should teach our society about the severity of cybercrime. In conclusion, You can’t stop cybercrime. But you can save your society by doing some precautionary measures. So, Think about it and make your life secure.
