Earth is home not only to human beings but also to many other creatures, including bacterias which may be big or small or even invisible. All these organisms depend on each other in one way or the other. Microbes although invisible have a great influence on the lives of almost every organism whether plant or animal including human beings. The microorganisms may be present on this mighty Earth even before the birth of human beings. The mighty man can defend himself from maybe the greatest enemy on the Earth or from outside the Earth but is still not capable to successfully defend against these invisible creatures.
Microbes – Friends or Foes?
Interestingly, all the microbes are not enemies rather some are such without whom a man may not be able to survive. This normal flora of the body protects from various environmental hazards that we are really unaware of. Unnecessary use of antibiotics can destroy these friendly microbes.
Penicillin – First cure against microbes
In the year 1928, Alexander Fleming first discovered penicillin. The first name of penicillin was ‘mold juice.’ Penicillin comes from the Latin word Penicillium. It was the greatest milestone of the 19th century. Soon man became proud and felt empowered over this tiny living creature without knowing the microbe’s power.

Microbial Resistance
It is evident from history that whenever man tried to poke into Nature’s job he had to face serious and fatal life-threatening consequences. The time came when antibiotics were started being used without knowing the actual cause of the disease. As a result of this resistance developed which means gradually the body cell became habitual and
friendly to these weapons which actually were made to combat the specific bacteria. This created concern for scientists.

Present Condition
The need of the time is to actually target the organism through a particular drug. Otherwise, the resistance would increase and will go beyond human control leading to the loss of vitality of the specific drug.
Superbugs
Superbugs are super microbes who try to empower super humans and their efforts. Undoubtedly a man is an enemy of himself. Accessibility of anti-microbial to everyone through over-the-counter availability is the main reason for this resistance. People unknowingly, without medical prescription consume the medicines even for minor illnesses which are usually self-limiting e.g. common flu.
Conclusion
Great scientists put in great efforts to manufacture vaccines for immunization so as to eliminate and eradicate various preventable diseases. It is now our responsibility, especially as a student to spread and inculcate the relevant and correct knowledge to the public through campaigns and social media and masses so that the actual purpose of anti-microbial would not breach.
